This was a very challenging project, which included major re-designs for the earth support systems and de-watering design. W. L. French was very involved with the consulting engineers during this process and helped keep a very aggressive schedule on target.

This project took place on an active elementary school campus where safety was extremely important and an ongoing daily challenge. Again, W. L. French did an excellent job and there were no major issues concerning their operations.

Project Highlights:

• Construction of 11,500 SF of underground class room addition.
  
  
• Design and installation of temporary excavation support systems, including h-beam and lagging, and concrete pit underpinning to support excavations up to 25 feet below grade.
  
  
• Excavate 5,000 CY of soil and place on adjacent site for construction of new athletic field.
  
  
• Installation of 2,500 LF of HPDE piping for athletic field underdrain system.
  
  
• Installation of segmental block retaining wall along the entire length of the athletic field.
  
  
• The project required careful operations planning since the work was being completed in close proximity to the active school.
